To my future daughter…
Yesterday I finished writing a post for a nonprofit that my friends runs. She connects young girls in the United States and other countries (in this case girls from Afghanistan). We read a book and write about our thoughts, answering questions and prompts along the way.
I would call it a book club, but it’s so much more than that. If anything, it’s a group of strong women that are bonding over a book and going beyond its ideas.
So to start off the first week, we introduced ourselves and shared our thoughts about several questions that were asked.
The final question read :
What advice will you give your own daughters on how to manage stress, anxiety, and depression?
My first thought — “Okay, where do I even begin.”
And how is it possible to not write an entire book for this question? I mean seriously, ask yourself this question.
If your head does not immediately explode into long thoughts and imaginary future talks you plan to have with your daughter one day, I honestly think you’ve got a head start.
Ahead start in what you ask? I’m not quite sure.
So what was my answer? 6 simples words.
IT’S OKAY TO NOT FEEL OKAY.
